Sentient Clan Services Lead Coach, Karen Howieson, has a background in addictions, mental health and health promotion as well as working with young people and animal welfare. She has over 30 years’ experience of working helping people take back their power and move forward in their lives. (12 of those years were running a trust helping young people with rescue dogs).

The work is holistic using Te Whare Tapa Wha (Maori wellbeing model encompassing whanau-family, spiritual, emotional and physical) with animals as the medium, drawing upon the natural ecosystem honouring and respecting all parties (as the majority of issues are created in relationship and this can be transformed in relationship). Karen completed Equine training 2018 and has been practicing Equine therapy for 3+ years and animal assisted therapy 14+ years with The Nelson ARK charitable trust (which worked with young people and rescue dogs helping over 400 sentient beings and rehoming 200+ dogs).
